VitalSigns for FTP, working with Tectia® SSH servers, provides automatic encryption for FTP file transfers to and from z/OS systems

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – March 9, 2014 – With its latest version of VitalSigns for FTP (VFTP), Software Diversified Services (SDS) further simplifies the task of securing z/OS file transfers that use FTP—an old technology in widespread use, despite its significant risks. VitalSigns automatically redirects z/OS FTP traffic through Tectia SSH clients and servers provided by SSH Communications Security Corp.
The SDS-SSH collaboration produces secure, encrypted data-sharing through global networks, without having to re-program the z/OS jobs that initiate the data transfers. No other solution enables this batch FTP-to-Secure-FTP migration as easily with a simple drop-down menu and without any JCL changes.
SDS’s VFTP also integrates z/OS FTP servers with standard mainframe SAF security (RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret). Security administrators can selectively allow or disallow any individual from using a given FTP server, or even lock down individual FTP commands for specific users. For example, all but the most trusted clients might be prevented from using the powerful SITE command or from using FTP to submit jobs to the JES spool.
VFTP 3.0 can alert administrators to any file transfer that exceeds a specified size. It can also block suspiciously large transfers. VFTP thoroughly monitors compliance with security policies and regulations. For security and auditing purposes, VFTP records history of FTP and Tectia SSH activity. It can do the same for file transfers via IBM Ported Tools OpenSSH 1.2.
“With the U.S. Computer Readiness Team identifying hundreds of FTP-related security issues, IT departments understand that FTP lacks important security safeguards and provides no clear audit trail,” said Jim Lampi, vice president at SDS. “VitalSigns for FTP addresses these issues and provides the security, automation, and monitoring that companies of all sizes need. It helps ensure compliance with regulations like HIPAA, SOX, GDPR, GLBA, and FISMA. It helps enable certification from the payment card industry.”
