MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 8, 2013 – Safe, automated file transfer for the IBM z/OS platform is available with VitalSigns for FTP, a product of Software Diversified Services (SDS). VFTP 3.0 can secure specific commands at a z/OS FTP server, preventing all but trusted clients from using the powerful SITE command or submitting jobs via the JES spool. VFTP also provides robust automation for file-transfer work; its FTP scripting language means batch jobs can, for example, re-try a file transfer that fails for some reason.
VFTP monitors and automates data transfers passing through z/OS FTP servers and clients, while providing seamless and transparent conversion from FTP to SFTP. The latest version, VFTP 3.0.6, available to customers since last October, also monitors and secures transfers through two other data transfer tools: Clients and servers using IBM Ported Tools OpenSSH 1.2, and Tectia® SSH clients and servers.
“With the U.S. Computer Readiness Team identifying hundreds of FTP-related security issues, IT departments understand that FTP lacks important security safeguards and provides no clear audit trail,” said Jim Lampi, vice president at SDS. “VitalSigns for FTP addresses these issues and provides the security, automation, and monitoring that companies of all sizes need.”
VFTP thoroughly monitors compliance with security policies and regulations. VFTP 3.0.6 can alert administrators to any file transfer that exceeds a specified size. It can also stop those transfers.
In addition to vital FTP security, VitalSigns for FTP offers network-wide visibility, allowing companies to track the complete ins and outs of their FTP traffic. It provides real-time notification when FTP jobs fail, tracking and logging of all FTP file transfers, reporting of top-10 FTP users, jobs, file sizes, and more.
In particular, VitalSigns for FTP provides:
- Easy, seamless, transparent migration from FTP to secure SFTP—without rewriting batch jobs;
- Graphic dashboard charts to illustrate FTP and SFTP activity in immediate real-time;
- Comprehensive and flexible workload monitoring and management to cover all business needs as well as rapid troubleshooting;
- Easy-to-use, robust controls over the configuration and behavior of z/OS FTP clients;
- Thorough audit capabilities for compliance and security.
