VNAC consolidates z/OS system logs, and automates command and control of system execs. A single installation can watch and report on console messages across entire networks of sysplexes. It can respond to a specified console message—or VIP monitoring alert—by triggering REXX execs to restart applications, for example, or re-route critical traffic.
In VIP configuration, the performance thresholds that trigger alerts are entirely under the control of z/OS system administrators. They can direct those alerts to e-mail addresses, to VIP’s graphic browser interface, to SNMP receivers and to system consoles. The intuitive browser interface often allows help-desk personnel to solve problems immediately, rather than promoting problem-tickets to specialized support staff.
A VNAC server can issue commands to z/OS systems anywhere in a network. VNAC provides a robust REXX environment with wide range of built-in commands and a talent for adopting REXX code originally written for NetMaster® and other similar products. VNAC’s browser interface recognizes the cryptic codes in IBM messages and provides direct internet links to IBM documentation where the codes are explained.
